Out of 162 students, 30 students are filtered based on letter reading capability and are yet to attend Auto refractor computerized test.

The auto refractor computerized test is planned to be held in the first week of October, 2016 to the 30 students of ZPHS, Pathikonda, Chittoor Dist.

FA4C will provide spectacles at free of cost to the students facing vision problem after the auto refractor computerized test.

Doctors will take health awareness session to the students while issuing the spectacles.

We noted down the report of the students having vision problems.

How is the eye screening done ?

Eye screening camp is efficient method to identify the children with eye problems (squint, refractive errors - sight, etc).

Step 1:

Vision Screening:

During the eye test, children cover one eye with their hand, without applying too much of pressure on eye lid, and read the alphabets (one by one) on vision chart (placed at a distance of 4 meters). Both right and left eyes were tested.

If the child is able to read all alphabets correctly up to second last line on vision chart (vision 6/9), with both right and left eye, that child probably has good vision. No more treatment is required.

If the child is not able to read all the letters up to second last line on vision chart, either with one eye or with two, an eyesight check was done by an eye care professional at the camp (optometrist or an Ophthamologist). This is step 2.

Step 2:

Eye sight refraction check (for spectacles power):

This checkup is conducted in 2 phases:

Phase A:

Approximate spectacle power was assessed either by Retinoscopy (or) by Auto Refractor (only to students having vision problem).

   a) Retinoscopy test was done to the students of ZPHS, Dammaiguda, Hyderabad.

   b) Auto refractor computerized test will be done to the students of ZPHS, Pathikonda Village, Chittoor District.

Phase B:

Based on the approximate power, final spectacle power was determined. Here, the eye care professional, change/trail the lens in front of the eye and finalize the best lens with which the child is able to read all letters on the chart up to last line (Vision 6/6))

Spectacles prescriptions were given only to those children, whose spectacle power was atleast -0.5 D.
If the power is too high positive side, for example +1.00 D or above, those students were referred to clinics.

Sincere Thanks to:

1) Mr.Pavan Verkicharla and Mr.Bala Kishore Mudiganti for working behind and arranging the Medical camp on behalf of FA4C at Hyderabad.

2) Mr.Sreenivasulu Thumsi for arranging the Medical camp on behalf of ‘Friends Association for a Change’ at Pathikonda Village, Chittoor District.
